Biography
Greg V. Etter
International Arbitrator

International arbitrator Greg V. Etter is a practical executive with extensive, diverse experience in domestic and international transactions. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, former Vice President and General Counsel of a large international corporation, and President of G.V. Etter L.L.C., which he established to provide consulting, legal and arbitration services. Greg’s areas of expertise and experience include all types of transactions, legal affairs, natural resources, water rights, government relations, corporate governance, public relations, environmental affairs, and security. The broad variety of transactions that he has handled include mergers and acquisitions, financings, construction contracts, joint ventures, leases, options, purchase agreements, settlement agreements, consent decrees and a broad range of agreements with both domestic and foreign governments. Greg has a proven track record of excellence in dispute resolution and the handling of complex matters involving multiple disciplines.

Prior to commencing his work in the field of international arbitration, Greg spent the bulk of his career in the international mining industry as a lawyer and executive. He was Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Battle Mountain Gold Company, an international, S&P 500 corporation listed on the New York and multiple foreign exchanges. He played a key role in the management of Battle Mountain, in addition to having responsibility for legal matters and domestic government and environmental affairs. While at Battle Mountain, Greg was also responsible for the affairs of Crown Butte Resources Ltd., a Toronto Stock Exchange listed company, where he successfully resolved all aspects of the controversial New World matter, obtaining sixty-five million dollars from the Federal government. Greg played a key role in the 3.25 billion dollar merger of Battle Mountain and Newmont Mining Corporation, and joined Newmont as a Vice President after the merger. At Newmont, one of the world’s largest mining corporations, Greg was responsible for government affairs, public relations, social development and security. Prior to joining Battle Mountain, Greg was engaged in the private practice of law, specializing in transactions and natural resources.

Greg is a graduate of Colorado State University with a B.S. in Geology. After completing his undergraduate education, Greg worked for Arco for almost five years as a member of a mineral exploration team. He then enrolled at Washburn University School of Law, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, first in his class.

Greg’s recent activities include serving as a Member of the Texas Water Development Board Plateau Regional Planning Group; a Director on the Board of the Kerr Economic Development Foundation; President and Director of the Alamo City Football Club; a Speaker before the Peruvian National Institute of Mining, Petroleum and Energy Law; Chairman of the National Mining Association’s Mining Law Task Force; Co-Chairman of the International Section of the 48th Annual Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Institute; and Vice and Acting Chairman of the National Mining Association’s Government Affairs Committee. Greg is a member of the Houston International Arbitration Club. He is available, on a selected basis, to act as an arbitrator in all types of commercial disputes.
